Our Dog Max

Thanks for the guest post by Jo Levy

We have a dog named Max. We got the dog when my son was in second grade. A friend of his who played baseball had a dog that had puppies. One day we were at our community park where my son was on a baseball team. He had just finished his game, and we were on our way to the concession stand to get some lunch. His friend came up with a box full of puppies. Before I could say no, somehow we ended up with a cute tan puppy. Well that was many years ago. My son has grown up and is a senior in a college far away. Poor Max has gotten very old and is now stricken with arthritis so bad he can barely walk. Today I looked up the veterinarian’s number on our satellite internet providers. I am afraid it is getting close to time to have our dog put down. I called and talked with the vet’s office personnel about what would be involved if we decided to do this. I can’t believe that I am having to decide about this. Your pets become part of your family, and it is extremely hard to think about letting them go. I don’t know how I am going to tell my son.
